Crypto Profit Calculator
This free crypto profit calculator shows your net profit or loss and return on investment from a trade. Enter how much you invested, your buy price, your sell price, and (optionally) your trading fee, and the result updates instantly. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere.
How to Use the Crypto Profit Calculator
The calculator needs three numbers, plus an optional fourth. Enter the amount you invested in US dollars, the price you bought at per coin, and the price you sold at (or the current price, if you want to check an open position). If your exchange charges a percentage fee, add it in the trading fee field and it will be applied to both sides of the trade. The results update as you type, and you can press Calculate or the Enter key at any time.
You do not need to know how many coins you own. Because you entered a dollar amount and a buy price, the calculator works out the quantity for you and shows it in the results as "coins acquired."
The Formula Behind It
The math is simple arithmetic you can check by hand:
- Coins acquired = amount invested / buy price
- Sale value = coins acquired × sell price
- Net profit = (sale value − sell fee) − (amount invested + buy fee)
- ROI = net profit / total cost × 100
When you leave the fee field blank, the fee terms are simply zero, so your profit is just the sale value minus what you invested.
A Worked Example
Say you invested $1,000 in a coin at a buy price of $30,000 and later sold at $45,000, with a 0.5% fee on each side. You acquired 0.033333 coins. At the sell price, that is worth about $1,500. Your fees come to roughly $12.50 in total ($5 buying, $7.50 selling). Your net profit is about $487.50, an ROI of around 48.5%. Change any input and watch how sensitive your result is to the sell price and the fee.
How Fees Affect Your Profit
Fees look small as a percentage but add up, especially if you trade often. A 0.5% fee on both sides of a trade is effectively a 1% hurdle your price move has to clear before you break even. Frequent traders can lose a surprising share of returns to fees over time. To understand the different costs exchanges charge, read our guide to crypto trading fees, and remember that any real profit may also be subject to taxes depending on where you live.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Forgetting fees. A trade that looks green before fees can be flat or red after them. Always include your real fee rate.
- Ignoring taxes. This calculator shows pre-tax profit. Selling at a gain is often a taxable event.
- Confusing price change with profit. Your profit depends on how much you invested, not just how far the price moved.
- Testing only the best case. Plug in a lower sell price too, so you understand your downside, not just your upside.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is crypto profit calculated?
Crypto profit is the value you receive when you sell minus the total you paid to buy, including fees. First, divide your amount invested by the buy price to find how many coins you hold. Multiply that by the sell price to get the sale value, then subtract your original investment and any trading fees. The result is your net profit or loss.
Does this calculator account for trading fees?
Yes. The trading fee field is optional, but if you enter a percentage it is applied to both the buy and the sell. Fees are subtracted from your proceeds and added to your cost, so the net profit and ROI you see reflect what you would actually keep after those costs.
Is my data saved or sent anywhere?
No. This calculator runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you type is saved, tracked, or sent to any server. When you close the tab, the numbers are gone. That matches CustomCrypto's privacy-first approach: your data stays on your device.
How do I calculate crypto ROI percentage?
Return on investment (ROI) is your net profit divided by your total cost, multiplied by 100. For example, a $200 profit on a $1,000 cost is a 20% ROI. The calculator shows this automatically once you enter your buy price, sell price, and amount invested.
