If I Had Invested in Bitcoin Calculator
Ever wondered what you would have today if you had invested in Bitcoin — or Ethereum, Solana, or another coin — back when? Pick a cryptocurrency, an amount, and a month in the past, and this calculator shows how many coins you would have bought and what they would be worth now. It covers 14 major coins using a built-in price history, so nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere.
How to Use the Calculator
Choose a cryptocurrency, type the amount you imagine investing in US dollars, and pick the month you would have bought. The calculator instantly shows what that stake would be worth today, your profit or loss, your return, and how many times your money would have grown. Leave the current-price box blank to use the latest recorded price, or type today's price for an exact number.
How It's Calculated
- Coins acquired = amount invested / price that month
- Value today = coins acquired × current price
- Profit / loss = value today − amount invested
- Return (ROI) = profit / amount invested × 100
- Growth multiple = value today / amount invested
Prices are the closing value for each month, so the result is a close approximation rather than an exact fill at a specific day and time. History starts when each coin was first listed on Binance — around August 2017 for Bitcoin and Ethereum, and later for newer coins like Solana and Avalanche.
A Worked Example
Say you put $1,000 into Bitcoin in August 2017, when it closed around $4,725. That would have bought roughly 0.21 BTC. At Bitcoin's price in mid-2026, that stake would be worth well over $13,000 — more than a 13× return. Move the month to the January 2021 run instead, near $33,000, and the same $1,000 buys about 0.03 BTC, a very different outcome. Trying different months makes one lesson obvious: in crypto, when you buy matters enormously.
Why This Is Perspective, Not a Prediction
Seeing a 13× return is exciting, but it is history, not a forecast. For every entry that looks brilliant in hindsight there is another that sat underwater for years, and past gains can reverse fast. The honest takeaway is not “I missed out” but “markets move in cycles, and the next opportunity needs a plan.” A steadier way to approach volatile assets is dollar-cost averaging — and you can model that with our DCA calculator.
Reading the Result Wisely
- Hindsight is not a strategy. Knowing the best past entry tells you nothing about the best future one.
- Survivorship bias is real. The coins in this list survived; countless others went to zero. Winners are easy to spot only afterward.
- Volatility cuts both ways. The same swings that create big gains create gut-wrenching drawdowns you would have had to sit through.
- Fees and taxes shrink real returns. This tool shows gross growth; actual outcomes are lower after costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much would I have if I invested in Bitcoin?
It depends on when you bought. Enter an amount and a past month, and this calculator divides your investment by Bitcoin's price that month to find how many coins you would have owned, then multiplies by the current price to show today's value. For example, $1,000 invested in Bitcoin in January 2021, when it traded around $33,000, would have bought about 0.03 BTC. The tool does the same for 14 major cryptocurrencies.
What historical prices does this calculator use?
It uses the closing price for each month from Binance market data, treated as US dollars. History begins when each coin was first listed on Binance, which is around 2017 for Bitcoin and Ethereum and later for newer coins. Today's value uses each coin's most recent recorded monthly close, and you can type in the current price yourself for an exact figure.
Is this a prediction of future returns?
No. Past performance tells you what already happened; it is not a forecast. Crypto is highly volatile and past gains can reverse quickly. This tool is for education and perspective, showing how an investment would have performed historically, not what any investment will do in the future.
Is my data saved or sent anywhere?
No. This calculator runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and a small built-in price file. Nothing you type is saved or sent to any server. When you close the tab, the numbers are gone. That matches CustomCrypto's privacy-first approach: your data stays on your device.
